I'm doing a calculations for a cylindrical shell, material EN10028-3 : P355N , design temperature 82°C. PVElite gives as output an allowable stress @ 82°C of 136.021 MPa. If I do by hand calculations according to PD5500 section 2.3.3.2 and taking the EN10028-3 : 2003 edition, the allowable stress should be 195.6 MPa, at the design temperature of 82°C. Where is the mistake ??

Hello Giorgio

You are correct. The problem is my fault. I treated that material as a low temperature material by mistake, in which cased the elevated temperature data is missing. I am working on that file. I should have it fixed in a couple of days. If you email me at techsupport@coade.com for the attention of Ray, I shall send you the updated file as soon as I have got it fixed.

By the way, I intend to delete all the obsolete (out of date) materials. Do you think this would cause a problem?

Hello Giorgio

I have now done further investigation of this matter, and this is what I have found:

My copy of EN 10028-3: 2003 shows for material P355NH 1.0562 no elevated temperature properties. The specification only shows elevated temperature properties for P355NH 1.0565. As no elevated temperature properties are shown for P355N, I treated this as a low temperature material. That is why the stress value is so low.

What is your common practice in a case like this?
