I would like to help you, but can you be a little more specific? What is your goal?

Hi,

Harmonic analysis is concerned about the cylic movement or cyclic response.
Normally it occur at the pump and rotating equipment.

Correct me if I wrong.

Harmonic analysis is that type of dynamic analysis where the R.H.S of the dynamic equilibrium eqn. is of a Sine or cosine form . There is no more to it than any other form of dynamic analysis.

Hi,

Yes , U are absoultely right. This analysis is concerned with the cyclic movement, for example in the reciprocating pump.

Harmonic analysis , is a part of dynamic analysis. It covers pulsation acoustic vibration or equipment vibration etc.

Thanks..

Vikas,

What exactly you want to know about Harmnonic analysis?

There are standard text books by the one by Mario Paz, Anil Chopra or the more advanced one by Clough and Penzien. These will take you to the basics of the solution methods. CAESAR II manual shows how to do it using the software.

If you are more explicit as to what you would like to know. we can tailor make our response.

Also pl. note that Harmonic analysis is applicable only for equipment connections like reciprocating pumps , compressors etc ( this is not to be used for random vibrations which may or may not involve high frequency and low frequency coupling of structural and acoustic modes)and the method of analysis is not simple ( there are 3 different philosophies as per API 618). It requires involvement with the vendor and defining the scope of their work. The vendor , if they themselves do not have the expertise will get the acoustic-mechanical analysis done by a third party like ENGINEERING DYNAMICS CORP . OR SOUTHWEST RESEARCH etc.

Are you trying to analyze a system connected to reciprocating pumps/compressors etc? If that is the case, my humble suggestions are :

1) Read API618 or the pump code.

2) Read papers which are freely available at the website of ENGINEERING DYNAMICS CORP.

3) Discuss with more experienced engineers and vendor.

Only then proceed.

Regards
