Do you consider steam out in pump compliance (API 610)....Is there any limit say 4 x API for this condition....Can we disconnect the line to the pump during steam out.....Your opinion with regards to this case is highly appreciated....

Dear Borzki,
There must be some steaming out philosophy decided by process & site engineer for pumps. Normally steam out of pump and piping are carried out separately removing connection between piping & pump flanges. In that case, pump nozzle load check in steamout is not applicable. Otherwise, stress analysis should be carried out at steamout condition and allowable nozzle load should be same as API610, Table 2 for centrifugal pumps.
Regards

It would be a Good idea to get the Project maintanence/operations team finalise the Steaming Out philosophy quite early in the detail engineering phase.

Most often ,operations/maintanence teams would not prefer disconnecting terminal connections unless otherwise required.

I would not agree to the 4xlimit ..

The bottomline is ,--Get the project /Process/operations/maintanence team , freeze the Steam out philosophy before you Stress such systems. That would save a lot of confusion in the later stages of the project..
