Am doin flare header line analysis , hav to give the loop sizing for the line 96”,.875"thickness ,340c ,slope line .i have arranged the loop according to the displacement criteria ( I kept it below 200mm), in this regard am not able to clear this because I don’t have any document to say this is loop size and the load to be this much

I need ur help in this regards for such a large bore line

go through this link and calculate the loop as.

dear muth

even though your pipe is not plastic, you can use the formulaes by changing the properties.

Good grief, if you have Caesar, do a proper job and optimise your loop size. Don't forget that in a multi-loop system the forces on an intermediate stop might balance to zero. That will certainly not be the case during start-up.

Moverz am not getting , let me know the reason for the force not be zero during start up(* since i am getting the same in my case )

thanks paul and moverz for the reply

Dear Much
Whatever result you are getting from Caesar is for normal operation only i.e. both side of intermediate stop having the same temperature which is creating equal & opposite load hence balance.
But during start up may be both side of line stop will to pick the optimum temperature at same time so temperature differential will create some load in line stop that you have to keep in mind while designing line stop support.

Hi Muth
There is typo error in my previous post

Friction in supports can mess up the balance also.

Thanks for all ur valuable answers,

is there any paper or technical document for finalizing the loop size? any one who come cross flare header analysis of such large bore ,can help me with their experience and infromation or technical paper?

Experts can help me out in this regards? john breen ? anindya? luf?richard?...

Dear Muth,

You can take as reference "Introduction to Pipe Stress Analysis" by Sam Kannnapan in Chapter V - Expansion Loop & Expansion Joint. There is a simple nomograph to determine bend length, L2 of it. Beside that there is also formula to have L2 = (3*E*D*dL/144*Sa)^0.5. Or you can use design of loops using M.W Kellogg chart.
