Hello,

I am doing analysis of gas system having design temp around 100 degree C and install temp of 10 degree C.

When I check the nozzle loads, I don't get any allowable values from manufauturers since they are small company. Can I use an old style method that limits maximum stress at the nozzle to 6000 psi instead of WRC 107? This system is not too critical.

Please, advise your opinion about this old fashion, please?

Many thanks,

Can you give a better description about this old style method?
Why do you want to use a maximum allowable of 6000 psi and how do you calculate the stress in the nozzles which you want to compare with this 6000 psi?

The value came from a Kellogg’s old book (originally it was proposed by Markl if I am right) and I got the same value from Peng’s seminar about 12 years ago. I have not done stress work for a while and recently back to the work. The stress is combined one due to bending and torsion on the nozzle having same size and wall thickness as those of the nozzle. The nozzle is assumed to be anchored with thermal displacements due to the vessel expansion. That is what I understand. If I am wrong, please advise me!

Thanks,

Which WRC 107 or 297 parameters should I check? When is my geometry valid for a WRC 107 or 297 analysis of a nozzle on a pressure vessel subject to external loads?

NewPiper, you may find the link above of interest/value.
