Hi all,
I'm having a bit problem with my CAESAR II and hope somebody can help.

I just bought myself a brand new laptop with Vista Home Premium SErvice Pack 1. I installed CAESAR II 5.07 on it because I need to review some calcs. and I don't want the calcs to be unreadable to my colleagues when I return it to them.

The installation did not go smoothly and I had to re-install it a few times. finally I managed to get it installed. But now, the problem is, every time I want to access the configure / setup function on CAESAR, an error message pops-up. It says "THE REQUESTED OPERATION REQUIRES ELEVATION".

Does anybody know what's the error and how to fix it.

I know that CAESAR II was not tested on Vista Home, but getting Vista Ultimate would be too expensive.

Hope to get somw feedback from you guys.

Cheers

You're going to have problems here because of the way Vista (all editions) enforces the commandment "Thou shall not write to '\program files'."

So when this occurs, Vista attempts to "virutalize" the operation off in some hidden directory - with the net result being you can never read what you wrote at a later date.

When Vista prompts you for "Elevation" it is asking for an "Administrators" password to continue the requested operation. Whatever you do, you will continue to have problems if you installed CAESAR II in '\program files'. The best thing you can do is:

a) Uninstall CAESAR II. Then delete all remnants of the software from below '\program files'.

b) Re-install CAESAR II to some other location, outside of '\program files'.

Note, not only is Vista Home not tested, we didn't test Version 5.00 under Vista either. Version 5.10 was the first CAESAR II version tested under Vista.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the update. I'll re-install it in some other lcation and see how it goes.
FYI, I've installed CAESAR II ver 5.1 build 0.8 on this laptop and its working fine. Smooth sailing.
Btw, when is ver 5.2 is coming out? anybody knows?

Version 5.20 should be released in January (2009), unless something falls apart between now and then.

He isn't running Version 5.10, but rather 5.00. I'm in the office, near my notes, but there were 6 or 7 revisions to Version 5.00, so what he means is 5.00.07.
