Dear Fellows,

According to ASME BPVC Sec-II Part A, Plates of SA-516 70 shall be normalized over 1.5" (40mm) thickness. Lets suppose I order 2" plate and I don't mention Normalized, will it be provided as Normalized by Vendor?

Should I select normalized (Curve D) in PVElite for thicknesses larger than 1.5" to minimize the MDMT as it will not effect the cost (as per Sec-II)? Please clarify. Thanks

Hi Mazaffar,

In the material spec (Section II Part A) for SA-516 paragraph 5.2 it does clearly state that thicknesses over 1.5 inches shall be normalized. So yes, you should specify Curve D for the material if this is the case.

Just to be sure, you should contact the material producer and isure that they are paying attention to the requirements in the SA-516 specification.
