I'm wondering if there is a reference for FRP piping spans. Would spans be greater than or less than PVC? I have a PVC span chart.

mul211,

You can get span chart as per vendor specifications. FRP pipes are not the same as metal piping that you can use the same span chart for the same material. Most vendors have different material properties like (stress allowables, Ea, Eh, Va/h, etc...)

Also, even if vendor provide the span chart, it is not advisable to directly use it because you do not know what fluid they use to calculate such. It is our job to do calculate and obtain this values.

Goodluck.

mul211,

Flexy105 is correct in saying you should check with individual FRP pipe manufacturers for span information (as well as other piping properties). If you provide me with your email address, I would be happy to send you our standard support spans.

As said above, most vendors have these charts. Ameron for example has tables on their pipe specification sheets. Most of the times water is used as medium and you can easily re-calculate the span by using the equation:
"water density / fluid density * span"
