Hi all,
Please can someone shed some light on the following:
Consider a tap-off/tie-in point on a large bore steam header. The steam is
required to be blown from this main header, through the tap-off line, to
another section of the plant, and discharge to atmosphere. [There is no
PSV in this scenario.]
The piping needs to be stress-checked, and the section at the discharge point, needs to be adequately supported [since there will be a reaction when the steam leaves the pipe & enters the atmosphere].
From the press & pipe internal area, the force is calculated, F. This F is then applied at the change of directions & the system is checked with this F in the load cases - right?
But, if the flowrate is known, and this is an open system, what else should be considered? I've looked at ASME B31.1's Nonmandatory App. for safety valve installations - but since there's no PSV, does it still apply?
