Dear all

I am new to caesar.I used a spring hanger and defined the load cases as recommended by caesar, but i am unable to underdstand what is the hanger load case(H) and what is the effect of adding this load case to the operating and sustained.

I have gone through the caesar manual C2AP.pdf (page no.8-24)i am unable to get the answer so please explain.

CAESAR II needs those two load cases to design the spring hangers. Once the springs are designed, you need to include the (H) in your load cases to apply the pre-load.

That H is the preload on the springs. That's what makes hangers different from restraints in CAESAR II. Hangers have an initial load and this load is a sustained effect. Once the springs are installed and in operating condition, they provide this load to the system - in the installed and all operating positions.

usually,CII is defind two hanger case:
a. Restrained Weight Case: W
b. OPEATING FOR HANGE TRAVEL: W+T1+P1

in Restrained Weight Case, CII will ignore the hanger stiffness replaced by rigid restraint Y and will calcaulate HOT LOAD value.
Use the HOT LOAD value to "OPERTING FOR HANGE TRAVEL" case, and ignore the hanger stiffness, then get the Vertical displacement value.
Use the two value CII will select a hanger stiffness from hanger's manufacturer, and will calculate the THEORY INSTALLED LOAD by the formublar listed below:
THEORY INSTALLED LOAD=HOT LOAD + stiffness of hanger * Vertical displacement value (including sign)
the Rate of hanger=[ABS(HOT LOAD-THEORY INSTALLED LOAD)/HOT LOAD]* 100%<25%(Normally)

Here I said is for the situation where CII is not "Include Spring Stiffness in Hanger OPE Travel Case" mainly.

Because what i have said the two hanger case above are for CII select hanger only, so by default the two case is set "Supress" by CII. You can open them and see the result in the result Report by set the "Supress" into "Keep" in Cases editor if you want.

Mabe normally you will find that the ACTUAL INSTALLED LOAD value is 0 in the hager talbe which is not right. You can get the right value by checked the "CALCULATE ACTUAL COLD LOAD" option in the "Hanger Design Control Data".

There is the other one to select hanger by CII, That is checked the option "Include Spring Stiffness in Hanger OPE Travel Cases" in the Configure/Setup before starting a new job, Or set the default value "ignore" into "AS Design" in the Cases editor.
