Hi
I am a new user in this group. I appriciate the service from Coade. Kindly advise on below

My Question:
In local load analysis, PV-Elite is considering three different types of loads in Input. 1) Sustained loads, 2)expansion loads and 3) occational loads.
I have a standard loads table which indicates allowble nozzle loads and moments against each nozzle size. How I have to consider these loads? Sustained or expansion in PV-Elite Input ? Which one is conservative?

Sustained. However, you always can check if the nozzle can take any of the standard expansion and/or occasional loads, if applicable to your vessel.

Thanks for quick responce..

Regarding the loads table, I have cross checked with our stress group. Their responce is, the allowable loads and moments given in the standard loads and moments table are inclusive of loads from various forces (Sustained loads), themal effects (expansion loads) and wind loads(occational)obtained from their analysis. Stress group can't giveus the break-up for each nozzle and for every vessel unless the loads are exceeding the alloawble limit in their analysis.
In this case how to proceed?
How to consider these loads (i.e Sustained / expansion / occational )?
Which one is conservative?
I hope you understand our problem.

It seems that the loads given to you are operating loads with sustained, expansion and occasional loads mixed in. If you want to be very conservative then input all the loads as sustained.

A more reasonable option in my opinion would be to divide the loads in to various categories yourself, such 60 % of loads as sustained, 20% as thermal expansion and 20% as occasional. This is just an example.

If the stress group uses a pipe stress program such as CAESAR II, they should be able to get the results for various load cases.

This looks very reasonable approach.
May be it is better to ask the stress group for a generalised approach at the beginning of the project..
