Is there any closed-form formula for allowable torsional moment Mt on vessel nozzle/ flange joint like the same for Fa, Ml & Mc practised by our mentors in this forum ? We consider Mt = sqrt( Ml^2 + Mc^2) & when in doubt check by WRC-107/Nozzlepro for vessel nozzle & Caesar-II flange leakage module for flange leakage.

regards,

sam

Nozzles are very strong in torsion... however the bolted joint is not... unfortunately the best way to check the bolted joint is using FEA (See Fepipe) or to use KFlange.

The Equiv pressure method is a poor tool when it comes to this type of thing and should only be used as a coarse filtering method.
