Good day to everyone. We are now designing utility lines for our project. But I'm really confused on which support to use. What is the difference between these three supports? When to use which?

McLovin,

U-bolt
used for critical and non-critical lines. 2" and below for critical with limited lateral loads. For the larger sizes it should have at least zero lateral.

U-strap
used for critical lines also with lateral loads; relief lines. Sometimes they're using this on PVC's because of it's wide area covering the pipe.

U-band
used for critical and vibrating lines. commonly used in relief lines(as tight support).

Also coordinate with your Lead Engineer.

What size are these Utility lines?
What are the temperatures of these Utility lines?
Why do you want to use a "U" device for support?
Are these lines being supported on the underside of roof beams?

Thanks liam.

Jop,
These utility line are mostly DN 40 to DN 80.
There a different temperatures. As low as 82 degC for potable water distribution and as high as 300 deg C in some steam lines. These lines are supported from brackets. What are the advantages of using U-bolts compared to shoes? My understanding is that U-bolts are cheaper then its more advisable to use it for utility lines. I hope Im correct

Typically shoes are used for the insulation line. I think U-bolt is good option for the small size utility line. As mentioned above, U-bolt is only suitable with the limited lateral loads.
