Hello, I have a situation where APPI 5L (PSL 2) X65 is being used for temperatures below -29 deg C by complying with the code (B31.4) requirement of Charpy Impact Test. However, there is no allowable stress, Elastic modulus, co-efficient of expansion, etc. for this temperature available in B31.3 for this material at this temperature. I just need a head's up on where to look for this information. Is it available in any other code or should ti be obatined from the vendor supplying the pipe? thanks in advance, Harish Lakshmanan Edmonton, Canada.

If you can make sure your material isn't brittle you can create your own version of the material using material editor. You may have to test each pipe. E and expansion coefficients use carbon steel values. There should be values in the database for low temperature CS. Allowable strength should be same as at room temp. If in doubt make a test. In to your report include clear statement what you have done.

Thank you Jouko. I am trying to get the test data from the pipe vendor.

Harish.
