Dear gr2vessels,
The entries in the allowable stress database (table 1a, 1b of ASME Sec. II Part D) do no have direct 1 to 1 correspondence to the records in the yield stress database (table Y-1).
PV Elite has 2 databases, to represent these 2 different tables of material properties. Once the user selects a material from the allowable stress database (1a,1b), then based on the material name and UNS, we try to find the corresponding record from the yield stress database. If we do not find any matching record or find multiple entries then the user is prompted for corresponding record from yield stress database. In the program, you would press the button next to the material name, press the Yield Stress button and select the record that matched.
The solution is for somebody to assign the identifier for the cross-reference between the 2 databases. There are thousands of materials in them. I would like the ASME code to provide unique identifier to the yield stress records. So, it will be updated properly in every addendum.
Another possible option might be for the program to try to find the matching entry based on the thickness, grade (along with material name and UNS). It will require us to update the structure of the main database, add new logic and still we may not cover all the cases. Some materials do not have a corresponding record in the yield stress database.
I understand that it would become tedious to select the yield stress record every time. If you have suggestions or any ideas let us know.
