Dear moderator,

For Cross tee connection, how sif can be determined in CAESAR V.5

I have attached the warning message & a snapshot.

WARNING: There are 4 PIPES framing into the intersection at 30. Please check for accuracy. No stress intensification factors for this intersection can be calculated.

Regards,
Balaji

There was a good answer on this topic few months ago. Topic has been discussed many times. PLS use search function.

If you ask me cross T doesn't belong to a pipe where you need CAESAR II.

you will not get any type for cross in CAESAR II. Its not in even B31 codes. refer some FEA S/W for correct SIF calculation.

I do not think that using minute element to trick the program makes bad design to a good design. Its like hiding a corpse into a cupboard. Sooner or later it will start to smell.

Hi Sir Jouko,

I think Sir Loren is not hiding any corpse? Sir Loren do you? confused

By the way, I think he address that solution for beginer that is in hurry situation to solve a problem... Like me i need time to understand SIF but for now i really want to make my things done. SIF understanding may come later but for now deadlines are coming... so i think it is a better solution for me.

I really thank Sir John Breen to post a link that explain SIF(which i have no time to read yet but only downloaded).

Sir Jouko Thank you for advice, I myself will try to study hard to make safety in our clients and those people operate the plants...

Ps: Dont get mad... im just a new commer who know nothing compare to you... frown

Regards!

The warning is because of four elements converging in one spot... it is simply a warning because this is not a typical pipe construct. (Some will argue that it is) However I believe Joukos point is that in piping that is being analyzed the internal strains are usually large enough to be of some concern. In those cases the non-code cross intersection type is a significant weakening of the header when D/d ratios become large therefore on would not weaken something deliberately that is going to receive a lot of load.

I thought of proposing new improved design. I just need to figure SIF for it.

start with pressure design first you have no ligament space in some spots....

Then start your SIFS they will be big
