*.C2 File Association with Caesar 5?

For some reason, with the install of Caesar 5, the *.CAESAR II files are not associated with CAESAR II.EXE so that when you double click a .CAESAR II file, the program will launch with the clicked input file.
I have even tried to fix the association by right-clicking on a CAESAR II file, doing OPEN WITH and digging down to the CAESAR II.EXE file in the program directory.
I've never seen this happen before, but when I try and make this fix, I can't make this association. It's almost like Windows doesn't see CAESAR II.EXE as a valid executable when I try to fix the association.
In short, so far, I've not been able to find a way to make the *.CAESAR II files open by double clicking on the file. Several of the guys in my group work this way, so I'd like some help getting this fixed.

Well, that's strange. Everywhere that I typed "CAESAR II" in my post, the forum software converted it to CAESAR II. Which is not particularly useful in illustrating my problem. Actually, I wonder if it is going to "fix" it in this post as well.

Yes, it did "fix" it, even though it doesn't show the change when I run a preview.

Based on a windows system: Normally, when you try to open an unrecognized filetype windows gives you a which program to use field. Below the list with available programs there is a checkbox "Always use this program". Check that when opening the file.
If the system still doesn't recognize the filetype, you can manually add it (I have a dutch version of Windows, so maybe I have some tab options wrongly translated. Sorry for that): Go to Windows Explorer --> Extra --> Options --> the tab Filetypes --> Click New --> add a new filetype and save.
Still strange though that your system doesn't recognize the file type.

I don't know about the forum and the c2dotexe converting to CAESARII.
However, your first question about clicking on a *dotC2 file in explorer. My installation opens Caesar, but does not open the selected file. It defaults to the last file used. It does not matter if the file is local drive or server.

This is because of the control file and the way that Caesar II handles opening the main menu... it always opens the previous file. You then have to select File->Open to change directories/files. However, you can drag and drop the file onto the Caesar II icon on your desktop and it will open the file and open piping input.

The Forum supports "short-cut" abbreviations. I set up a couple, one of which is "C 2".
The proper way to refer to the program name is "CAESAR II", all in caps with the Roman Numerial, and in bold. So, if you type "c 2", that is the substitution that the Forum performs.

So, what is the proper way to refer to the version 5 file name so that it will display properly as an extension? (The artist formerly known as .a)

As I did above, put a space between the "c" and the "2".
