CODE COMPARISON CHART.
IS THERE A CHART COMPARING THE MAIN DIFFERANCES
BETWEEN AMERICAN STANDARD CODES B31.1,B31.3,
B31.4,B31.5,B31.8,B31.9 AND B31.11.

B31.9 IS NOT IN CAESAR II AND THIS CHART WOULD
BE HELPFUL.

Hi Patrick,

Each of the ASME Codes for Pressure Piping that you cite is written for a specific purpose. The best way to learn what the major differences are between the "books" would be to read the "Scope and Definitions" section that is found at the front of each Code book. The "Scope" paragraphs detail what the specific Code section explicitly includes and what it explicitly excludes. You will then find out that there are detail differences in each of the chapters. Requirements for design, materials, fabrication, assembly, erection, testing, inspection and examination are found as you peruse the "books".

A detailed comparison of the various Pressure Piping Code sections really could not be done with a simple chart (in seminars, it may take 8 or 10 "charts" and much verbiage). That would require much space and I think it would be beyond the intent of this forum. Perhaps if you would provide an email address someone will get back to you.

Best regards, John.

Hello Patrick and all,

You may want to take a look at the "engineeringtoolbox.com" site. More to the point of the topic you may want to look at the information regarding the B31 Codes for Pressure Piping on this page:

http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/17_39.html

While you are there look around, as this site seems to have lots of general information for engineers of all disciplines.

Best regards, John.
