What is the allowable velocity for the superheated steam. As per our standard it should to be within 60m/s. But in one project, the existing header is designed for only 570TPH, but the client requirement for the present one should be 660 TPH..due to the increase in flow rate, the existing header vecity goes up to 65 m/s...but the pressure drop is within allowable..is it acceptable 65 m/s...what r the significance....if the velocity goes high.other than pressure drop ?

100 m/s max for occasional/temporary duty
50 to 70 m/s max for constant duty
under 50 m/s recommended

Other duties have different speeds.

Do not be concerned for my sake... His comment speaks eloquently on his own up bringing, and cultural value(s). I still think he would have greater success getting his nebulous question answered in those other forums but if he wants to fish in a lake that has few fish in it so be it.

The question is nebulous because different companies have different standards on V as well as Industry practice. The question reminds me of "What is the best (Tea,Coffee, Bier.... etc.)" Or athe evr popular what coefficient should Mu be?

We all know as V goes up the possibility of flow induced vibration increases , but there is no single magic number that fits all occasions, only a person lacking knowledge on the subject would ask what is the single magic number?

I hope he finds success in his quest for the magic number, perhaps he will also come across the lost ark of the covenant, the holy grail or the magic touchstone that converts lead to gold!

As Anindya said, before you learn you need patience, humility. After you learn also you need patience,humility. It is unfortunate that people with Knowledge and experience levels of Mr Luf have been inappropriately addressed.

Ego neither helps in your pipe stressing jobs nor in your daily life. Afterall you have to work with people of different attitudes till you retire. Companies would have bought encylcopedias and not people,had it been just knowledge.
