Actually, its a problem with Norton Anti-Virus. Check out this link to their web site:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav...48?OpenDocument

We have found that the only solution to this problem is to edit the Registry, find the key they added, and delete it. There are two problems with this. First, this is a dangerous part of the registry to be fooling around in. Second, the autoupdate of NAV appears to add this key back to the registry.

Thanks for the reply.
I would like to know how to edit the registry. Which folder I should go in & delete which file?. So if it is update I can repeat the process.

Dear Guru:

Before editing the registry to solve this problem, you should try to follow the instructions for disabling "Script Blocking" mentioned on the Norton website that Rich refers to above.

If following the Norton instructions for disabling "Script Blocking" fails, then try this:

1. Click the Start|Run menu, then type REGEDIT in the "Run" dialog box.

2. Expand the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID key.

3. Scroll down the list until you see {00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} and expand it. There are several keys that look alike, or differ by only one number, so make sure that the one you choose matches exactly. This is the "secret code" used by Microsoft to determine when and how Windows will start MSWord.

4. Under this key will be an entry named "InProcServer32". Right-click it and select "Delete". The value that is stored here points to a Norton file named "Symantec Shared/Script Blocking/scrblock.dll"

5. Close REGEDIT.

6. After this, CAESAR II should start MSWord without any problem.

The bad news is that Norton will sometimes notice that this key is missing and reinsert it, so making this modification isn't always a one-time activity. I suggest that you call Norton and ask them to assist you.

<font color="red">I must warn you that editing this part of the registry can be very dangerous, and you should take extreme care to only delete the one and only one key mentioned above. This part of the registry is where Windows stores all of its internal information and modifying it incorrectly could cause Windows, or any part of Windows, to either not run at all or run incorrectly.</font>

If you are at all unsure about making these modifications, please have a system administrator make them for you. If they have any questions, have them give us a call or send an email and we'll be more than happy to discuss this issue with him/her.

Hi David,

The key you mentioned i.e. {00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} does not have "InProcServer32" under my registry.
There is "InprocHandler32" or LocalServer32.
"InprocServer32" is present in a different key.

I have only done a search & did not delete anything. Let me know on this.

Thanks & regards

Here is what the Registry should look like in this area ...

Please have a look at it, and if yours is different, please have someone from your IT department contact us directly.

I notice an "AutoConvertTo" entry under this key in your Registry. Whenever you start Word, Windows looks at the AppID stored here and tries to start it. I'd be interested to see what's under this key and who put it there. You can try to rename that key, or get rid of it, and see if you can start Word from CAESAR&nbspII again.

Did you follow the above link to the Norton Anti-Virus web site? Once on the referenced web page, there are two links to other documents discussing the resolution of this issue. Have you reviewed these documents?

Once you try these steps, if you still have problems, the only thing you can do is contact Norton Anti-Virus Support directly. They fouled up your machine, and they are the only ones who know exactly what they did.
