Future of Piping Stress Engineers - 06/15/16 02:18 AM

I've been in the industry for 11 years and never experienced this kind of recession. Many are saying that oil and gas is on its way down and renewable energy will take over. Is there still future for us?

What are your thoughts?

Honestly, I'm now seriously considering changing careers but piping stress analysis is whats in my heart frown

First pass it looks that way, doesn't it? But dig a little deeper.

Think about it - how are they going to make solar panels, wind turbines, etc. without synthetics for lubricants, electrical and thermal insulation? Move product from factory to site? Mine the raw materials? Refine them? If everything goes to electric (lets say, fission or even fusion generation) that's going to be a lot of metal for transmission wires alone. Try refining that with a wind farm.

Not certain what your roads are paved with, we use asphalt - not good intentions. Three guesses where the former comes from.

Not everyone lives in the tropics either. Try using solar panels up North (or south, but not much land mass down there) in December when you *need* heating.
