API 650 App P shell thickness w/repad

API 650 App P shell thickness w/repad - 04/11/14 12:15 PM

I am working through the nozzle calculations per App P.2. The tank includes a repad (1/4", same as shell).

My question is does 't' (shell thickness) include this repad ie. 1/2"?

I can see it not being included for somthing like radial deflection or shell rotation, since the repad is only a small part of the tank shell. But if it isn't included at all, I dont see where having a repad or not benefits the calculation, ie. shouldn't the calculation with a repad produce higher allowable loads?

Thanks.

The stiffness curves for "reinforcing on the shell" assume a pad with thickness equal to the shell thickness.

Dear Mr. Richard,

You are saying that appendix P curves are based on thickness of shell plus pad of same thickness as shell, and There is no need of giving pad thickness??

Yes, that is the assumption if you select the curves for "reinforcing on the shell". The other set of curves, "reinforcing on the nozzle" assumes no pad is necessary.
