rectangular nozzle calcs - 02/14/11 12:47 AM

we are designing a vessel (Sec VIII Div 1) which required rectangular nozzles due to process equipment.
Can we insert a rectangular nozzle in the program? and how can we do it in PVElite.

Re: rectangular nozzle calcs - 02/17/11 12:01 AM

i am thinking of using Appendix 13 for the calculation of the nozzle wall, Appendix 2-10 for the calculation of the flange thickness & UG 34 for the opening but i have to vitit the AIA as per U-2 (g) to get his concurence for using the same.
since the nozzle neck will be a seperate U stamp a seperate U1 or U2 form will have to be generated to certify it.

please i am open to other suggestions as well but if you could please check and let me know if i can do it as per above.

Search in this forum on how to design the rectangular opening that the nozzle makes in the shell. You should see some posting by Ray on this topic.

Be extemely careful when designing rectangular or obround nozzles. The junction between the nozzle and the shell/head may need special raeinforcement that is not covered in the code.

Hello Ajay

Actually, they are all there. When you are in the 'Figure Number for Type of Vessel', press the <F1> key and you will get help on the various type of rectangular vessel.
