Nozzle loads problems - 05/21/10 05:27 AM

Hello boys,

I have constructed a vessel with ASME in PVELite
Outside Diameter: 1500mm
Length: 3500mm
Thickness: 8mm
Temp: 150 C
Pressure: 5 barg/ FV

Thats is no problem, but know i have recieved Nozzleloads. And know the vessel has to be 12 mm! And all nozzle schedule 80S.

My question is, what are the options to reduce wallthickness.
A option is to add reinforcementplates.
A option is to weld gusset/rib on 4 sides of the nozzle. The can take the nozzleforce also. But it is very difficult the calculate.

Is there anyone who knows from his experience to solve this problem?

If may give you a different idea, did you get accurate nozzle loads? are they standard loads from a table or real loads computed after the piping analysis?

If they performed the piping analysis then did they consider the flexibility of the shell? Because, this can have considerable impact on the loads.
