Coupling Calculation for ASME VIII, Div.1

Coupling Calculation for ASME VIII, Div.1 - 03/16/10 09:40 AM

Dear Guys, Moderator Ray,
Me again,

i got another queries on how to model & calculate coupling for ASME VIII, Div.1.

UG-44 FLANGES AND PIPE FITTINGS
Pressure–temperature ratings shall be in accordance with the appropriate standard except that the pressure–temperature ratings for ASME B16.9 and ASME B16.11 fittings shall be calculated as for straight seamless pipe.

Example: TO MODEL NPT HALF-COUPLING

1- OD of the nozzle(coupling shall be according to ASME B16.11, Table 6).

2- Thickness of the nozzle (coupling shall be according to ASME B16.11, Table 2). e.g. for 3000# shall take pipe sch. thickness sch.160.

Is this the way to make sure fitting rating will be maintain & calculation is tally with dimensions from ASME B16.11? If this correct, how about the thickness for socket-weld fitting shown on Table 4,ASME B16.11?

Or Table 2 is only meant for mating pipe to be use together with the fittings? If this correct, where should i get the actual coupling thickness to do the calculation?

Thanks..

Hello Auwis

There is a button for couplings in the nozzle dialogue screen. You are free to use that unless you want to enter your own dimensions.

Yes Ray,

I notice that..

If you got time, or anybody,
Please reply my query as above.

Thanks for your Response Ray..

Hello Auwis

There is a thread inside the coupling, plus the fact that the thread is tapered. It is better that you look at the standard and decide for yourself if the wall thickness is appropriate.
