Saddle analysis for equipment supported column - 04/13/07 12:42 AM

HI,

I am designing the horizontal vessel which supprots the column. The nonzzle on which the column is mounted is perfectly above one of the two saddles.

My problem is that the soft doen't allow me to model both at same time, so in this case i am trying to manupulate calculation of saddle, by placing column weight (operating weight as dead weight) directly on the saddle. So that the equivalent forces due to dead weight and earthquake forces can be manipulated.

Please note that this equipment is critical so please guide me that this method is satisfactory or not.

Hi Vishal

You seem to have modelled the vessel with the column the best way. Putting a weight in the centre of the vessel will allow the saddles to include the added weight. I would suggest that you model the nozzle with a vertical force acting in place of the column. If you have PV Elite, you can do this with WRC 107 on the nozzle dialogue screeen. If you only have CodeCalc, you can do this directly with the WRC 107 module.
