cone stress(pvelite 4.00) - 09/26/00 08:38 AM

Dear Sir
In designing eccentric conical sections, the result depend on the direction of the part.
for example, for a horizontal vessel with two eccentric cone in both side(both of them are the same)the left conical section does not satisfy the allowables while there is no problem for the right side conical section.
As i have studied in pressure vessel handbook by Bednar, the formulas for axial force and moment and stresses are not different for two sides.
How could i justify the problem.

Dear Sir,

The calculation of discontinuity stresses is a bit more tricky than may appear on the surface. The program checks several key points at the onset of the calculations. These points do involve the moment at the large and small end as well as the pressure and diameters. If you wish to send in your model with a specific question, please feel free to do so.

Dear sir
Why axial force and moment are not equal in both side.
