The vertical vessel is hydrotested in a horizontal position

The vertical vessel is hydrotested in a horizontal position - 02/10/17 06:45 AM

There is a vertical vessel supported by a skirt, it shall be hydrotested in a horizontal position.
In a horizontal position it is installed on two saddle supports (one under a shell the other - under a skirt). It is required to check strength related to support load action under horizontal hydrotests.
In order to make this calculation we put the model in the file into horizontal position and add saddle supports. But a problem appears: analysis results shows overstress in a skirt support because test pressure and liquid were taken into account. How to avoid inclusion of pressure and liquid in a skirt?

Hello Alex

Click on the 'Design Constraints' tab and in the field that asks for the type of hydrotest, set it to no hydrotest. Anyway, the hydrotest analysis is not relevant, because obviously the vessel is transported empty. You could even leave the hydrotest out of you final report.

Does that help you?

Hello Ray,

Thank you for your answer. But fabricator perfoms hydrotests of vertical vessel with a skirt in horizontal position.

Hello Alex

Make two models, one for the hydrotest in the vertical position, and one for the hydrotest in the horizontal position. You could make a third model for no hydrotest. PV Elite is really a toolbox. You can get it to do whatever you want. You are only limited by the imagination.
