spec editor - 05/10/19 11:20 AM

In the past we manually entered the long descriptions in spec editor, but it seams it can be faster to keep them dynamic (blue) as in my image. Now I need to figure out how to change descriptions through "long description format setup" and through editing components

Specifically our pipe is all one entry .5" through 24" with 2" and under S/80 and over is S/STD

How do I change 2" to S/STD when they are all under the same entry, see image.

Thanks.

If you use the Schedule Assignment Dialog found in the properties, you can assign a schedule to a size. Then for the components, you keep it at Use Specification Schedule.

Use the schedule assignment table for the spec to assign schedules/walls to each size. If you have an alternate wall for a given size, you need to create a second component entry and pick the specific schedule from the drop-down rather than pointing to the table.

Got it, thanks!!

So keeping this format with linked dynamic data, would our ever export to .xlxs to "find/replace" descriptions?

This new way seems just as fast...

I have added images to change a ROUND PLUG to A-105 while keeping caps to A-234

Let me know if there is a better way, thanks!

The materials table is about the most effective way of doing it.

I haven't had much call to export/modify/import, with a good set up of fields and catalog tables most of the spec contents are handled easily.

I'm starting to agree, toggling the fields is pretty quick, the set up I inherited was done well.
Adding /building the "linked descriptions" could be challenging so if anyone reading this has any tutorial links for video or PDF for others who would want to go this route please post, thanks.
