What would cause all bolts in an entire model to disappear?

What would cause all bolts in an entire model to disappear? - 07/09/18 10:31 AM

this has happened to us a few times now. the bolts in an entire model just disappear delete out of a model? what commands could cause this to happen. it has happened now with 2 designers and both are unsure what they could have done to cause the bolts to disappear from an entire area model.

bolts are still present in another area model using the same spec.

Sounds like someone has run the SYSVIS command.

the gaskets are still all there its just the bolts. I thought maybe it could have been the ECE MTOworx acting up. it has issues quite a bit of the time when in the "Component X-Data" tab but i havent been able to replicate the problem.

If you export/link to Live DB, do the bolts show up in the DB tables ?

nope they do not export to a database. they appear to have all been deleted out of the model.

Sorry Trey, I am out of ideas. You should be able to just run AutoBolt to have the bolts restored. This won't place duplicate bolts sets like with the 2012 and earlier releases.

well the other issue is we have lots of centerline 200 butterflies with no gaskets and face to face against the valves. How would i get stud bolts on regular gasket flanges and cap screws on the butterflies?

What versions are you using ? I would assign Bolt Selection codes in the Spec for stud bolts and cap screws. Then assign these to the neccesary valves/flanges in the spec.

If you have ran the RECOVER/AUDIT commands it will delete bolts from your model. try not to use those commands

That is interesting Matt, was not aware of that. I have only managed to do that with the recover command. Audit appears to work without problems on 2018

oh lawd, our models crash from time to time and we do have to recover them like once or twice a month!

man this is not good, how can we fix this issue. based on my experience over the last 10 years with Cadworx nothing is going to stop the models from crashing within autocad its just a quirk we've grown accustomed to dealing with.

We are having the same issue. For some reason the bolts do not place automatically since we switched to CadWorx 2018. Autobolt doesn't work either. We have to manually place all bolts. You can save the model and all the bolts are there. You reopen the model and some of the bolts have disappeared. Didn't know about the recover issue with bolts. Has anyone came up with a solution for this?

Autobolt has worked pretty well for me. Do you possibly have bolt selection codes assigned? have had instances where bolt set is assigned a selection code, and applied to valves. The bolt set is then deleted from the spec, but the selection code remains assigned to the valve.

So autobolt is unable to place the bolt then as it cant find the selection code.

However saving the model and reopening to find components missing, can relate to autocad save issues.

Components missing on open is typically the result of corrupted XDATA on the component. I've found that from time to time, usually from someone getting a "case of the clevers" i.e. trying to work on geodetic coordinates, COPYPASTE between files, grouping multiple intelligent objects together, and so on.

Any solutions here yet? We've already run isos and suddenly all bolts are gone. No recover/audit commands? Thats not a solution. Autobolt will not take care of the specials.

"Bolt component with selection code (null) was not found in specification..."

anyone else having these issues? Bolts are a constant ongoing problem here.

*edit spec issue here fixed it

so this is an issue that comes up from time to time here. what I find as a solution is not to recover/audit without first using convertenhanced. for some reason, if you are modeling in 3denhanced and use the recover/audit the bolts do not remove. so we have converted the drawings to 3denhanced then audit, line palette refresh shows all components. then convertsolids back to normal. bolts tend to stay and problem fixed.
its something we've tried and works most of the time.
hope this helps.
