modeling and dimensioning in Cadworx - 07/01/19 01:32 PM

I've run into an issue of changes to vessels (they are going to happen sooner or later) where moving coordinates or S/S, or even OD. jacks with your layout space details.

With best practices are to model your equipment to your projects coordinates how does everyone accommodate changes while minimizing rework?

So what do you do after you have modeled and created vessel details for your fab shop PLAN/ELEV/etc. and you get a change order to move the equipment? I'd like to avoid adjusting layout viewports and dimensions which can be made scalable but those are not too friendly to movement.

Do you have a vessel DWG at 0,0,0 and have a second file of an .SAT that is moved to real world coordinates? You'd loose intelligence but keep detail drawings locked. I'd like to hear what others are up to.

My usual recommendation would be to use the WCS as equipment coordinates. It really doesn't matter if the plant layout changes as you just move the equipment XREF in the host model as required. It does help to have the same orientation for profile and isolines, but not mandatory.

Trying to get people to do that is another story. Most will insist on plant coordinates regardless of the extra work to handle changes.

Dimensions and annotations are delayed as long as possible, although the title block, notes, etc. can still be set up.

Good idea, I could get on board with moving the xref'd equipment in Plant if we lock the layer after moving.

Anyone with other solutions?
