Hurricane - 09/26/05 02:50 AM

This is possibly off topic and is not relevent
To engineering,
However, my only link with Texas and the gulf is
via the people of this forumn.

Just a line to hope that all went well and that no loss or injury happened to any of you guys.

Living in Ireland, i cant possibly imagine what a stage 5 hurricane is like, but judging from the tv, i hope never to see one.
Good luck to all in that area.

Hello from Houston. We survived relatively unscathed. In west Houston, where I live and work, things are already back to normal. Aside from some wind (I'd say about 30 mph) and very little rain, the only sign of any disaster is the bare shelves in most grocery stores and very little gas in the area. However, that is rapidly changing, as people return to open stores, stock shelves, etc. Schools in and around Houston will not start until about Wed. or Thurs. There are still long delays for people returning to Houston.

I have family in Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte and Galveston. They had stronger winds and also very little rain.

Towns in and around Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana took the brunt of Hurricane Rita. Cameron, LA is practically leveled, according to news reports. More New Orleans levees broke from the rain and storm surge. Several refineries in the areas affected are shut down and, if not damaged and have power, plan to restart in the near future.

The Houston Chronicle website is a good place for information. www.chron.com

Also, The Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com) and Foxnews (www.foxnews.com) sites have pretty decent coverage.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.
