Anchor Blocks for underground GRP lines - 09/25/05 10:37 AM

Hi All,

I am doing Stress Analysis of underground GRP lines. What considerations should be looked for while deciding position of anchor blocks? If the line is not showing any stres failure, is it necessary to have anchor block at every change of direction?

what joint are you using(restrained or unrestrained). If unrestrained you should go for Thrust blocks at change in direction.

You may also need HIGH THICK FITTINGS (Elbows) ...

Neelam

Well if i am using restiained joints and if the analysis does not show stress failure you mean to say that there is no need to use thrust blocks?
do you know any site having literature about stress analysis of underground GRP analysis.

If your Buried piping is using laminated joints i.e restrained type , you may not require thrust blocks.

Also verify the wall thickness for any vehicular traffic..

Caution about stress analysis of GRP piping:

The matl properties differ from Vendor to vendor. Suggest you involve the vendor thro out your design. AWWA M 45 is good to start with. ISO 14692 Part 3 also gives sufficient guidance on GRP piping design.

Expect a lot of supports(saddle type) and guides.
