Question regarding slug flow - static equivalent method.

How does one determine the force of a slug if it is hitting and stopping - either a closed valve, or an end cap, etc.? Most spreadsheets and analysis tools give an static load equivalent for a bend at90 or 45 degrees.

Thanks.

Should just be F =(rho) A V^2 / gc , multiplied by your Dynamic Load Factor, typically 2.

F = force, lbs
rho = fluid density, lb/ft^3
V = velocity, ft/sec
A = flow area, ft^2
gc = 32.2 ft.lbm/lbf.sec^2
