Allowable Displacements - 04/23/11 11:24 PM

Dear members,

1) I want to confirm how much displacement is allowed in pipe rack in axial direction of having 80deg.centigrade ?
90mm ?, 100mm or 120mm...?

2) And how much it is allowed in vertically downward direction in sustained case at control valve station, vertical lug @ expansion loop, change in horizontal & vertical directions ?
3mm ?, 5mm or 7mm...?

3) Then what about displacements in Max operating condition in vertically downward direction ?
15mm ?, 20mm or 25mm...?

4) And does CAESAR or CODE is saying anything about displacements ? If not, could some one please send me any reference documents or forward the links which you know... explaining allowable displacements in piping system in all type of services irrespective of temperature and sizes.

Dear Analysers, please share your knowledge...please let me know the actual practice following in your companies.

Yours fello mate.

Dear,

This all depends on the project standards & specifications.

As such , there is no such defined numbers for your questions.

Say for eg: allowable support span of some companies are based on a vertical sag of 10 mm. Therefore, it becomes a limit for vertical sagging for such projects.

Do refer your standards for the same!!CODE or COADE doesn't limit displacements & is purely based on the enginner's judgment!!!

Keep Smiling,

We use for lateral displacements max of 3"-4", and vertical sagging of lesser of OD/4 or 1", though I've seen standards saying as low as 1/2" for sagging.
