API 650 Tank Nozzle - 03/28/11 06:00 PM

We are doing analysis for API 650 Tank.

We have followed the follwoing method:

1. Calculate the stiffness (for radial force, longitudinal & circumferential moment) per API 650
2. Calculate the nozzle deflection & rotation due to pressure, product head and temperature per API 650
3. Input these values in C2 and compare the nozzle load in nomographs.

Please comment if this the right procedure or something else has to be done.

Thanks,

Yes, that is the basic procedure.

Notes:

1) c2 will automatically insert the nozzle stiffnesses into the model, you don't have to do this.

2) Prior to Version 5.30, c2 will not automatically insert the deflection and rotation into the model. As of Version 5.30 the program does insert these values, with guidance from the user as to which displacement vector these computed values should be associated with.

3) c2 will not draw the nomographs. You will have to do this outside of the software.

I tried to include nozzle deflection in results but no success

C2 application guide doesn't say anything about this.

You didn't say what version of c2 you're using?

If you add the displacement and rotation to "D1", make sure you add "D1" to the appropriate load cases. If you don't include "D1" in the load cases, you'll get the same results as before.

I had some hard time in figuring out how this is working. For the moment I insert as usually. When do you think that you will explain the various things you implemented for us normal people?

And I'm not picky. Someday you should re-write the whole thing.
