Difference between thermal Coeff in Caesar and Code - 03/07/11 05:08 AM

Hi all,

I am working on Caesar 5.20. For material A106B Caesar shows thermal Exp coefficient as 2.5 mm/m at 200C, the selected Code is B31.1. But in the table B-1 of appendix B of ASME Code B31.1 the thermal Exp Coefficient for Carbon Steel (Group 1 material) is 2.3 mm/m at 200C. Please let me know why Caesar considers higher Coefficient of expansion. Thanks.

No, it is the same expansion coeficient. Seems that you have a different reference temperature. B31.1 reference is 20C so the 2.3 mm/m at 200C is for a delta T = 180C. If you have instalation temperature lower you will have a bigger delta T hence your 2.5mm/m.

Oh yes Dan you are right. In this project we are using amb. temperature as 2C, that is clients requirement. I completely ignored that point.
Thanks.
