Does Caesar provide a to perform a flange leakage check (either Kellogg or NC-3658) for Dynamic Analysis?

The "flange rating check" is in the Static Analysis only.

You're the first to ask for this in dynamics. I'm not a big fan of this procedure, it really has nothing to do with leakage - but everyone makes this assumption.

Dear Mr.Richard Ay,

I am also one of the person about to ask the same query. Why the flange leakage analysis is not available for dynamic check.

Since most of my pipeline stress analysis are concerned with the pumping station with flange connections and these lines are to be designed for water hammer case.

Even in the static case, for a long pipeline, when the flange connections are near to the anchor point, the axial load on the flange is huge and it is advised to the pipeline designer to locate the flanges far away from the anchor.

Since the static case affects the flange connection much, why not it might have got affected much in the dynamic effect !!!!!!!

But there is no flange leakage check in Caesar-II for dynamic effect.

Caesar uses a flange check per NC-3658-3 (a) (2) for static (equation 12). Equation (13) is listed for dynamic bending and torsional moments. Which basically allows twice the dynamic and torsional moments than the static.

So a flange check can be done manually through the use of a spread-sheet using equation 13 to check the resulting dynamic moments. If somebody wanted to do a dynamic check.

Is that reasonable?

As a suggestion, I think for pipeline flange checking it is more realistic the approach of B31.8 APPENDIX E Note 14, i.e. the bending moment to produce leakage of a flanged joint with a gasket having no self-sealing characteristics can be estimated by the equation:
ML=(C/4) (Sb Ab − PAp)
You may compare your bending moment in dynamic scenario with this limit.
Under this approach, an axial compression force is not counted as participating to flange leakage.
