MATERIAL SPECIFICATION FOR INCOLY B423 UNS N08825 - 05/06/10 07:29 AM

Dear caesar-II makers,

I am thankfull to the makers of caesar-II that material INCOLY B423 N08825 is added into the material database in Caesar-II ver 5.1.

Sir, when I tried to see CAESAR-II material database editor for the material no. 393 leads to B423 UNS N08825 only and all the data shown their matches with ASME B31.3 edition 2006 table A-1 page 172.

But the real problem is that when I am using the same material in CAESAR-II spreadsheet for temperature ranging from -20 deg.C to 85 deg.C.The message prompts as "the temperature for case is outside the allowed range for this material".

However as I explained above that the CAESAR-II material database editor shows the correct data.

Early reply will be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

But if you look closely at the values in the database you'll see that there is no expansion coefficient below ambient. This is why you're running into the error.

We don't have expansion coefficients below ambient for this material. If you can obtain this value, then you can modify the database entry and the error will go away.

Dear sir,
Thanks for your valuable reply.

Sir,I have CAESAR-II ver 5.2(demo)with me and When I did the sample analysis of the file,It is running properly. But as I have CAESAR-II ver 5.2(demo) with me at Home I cannot see the data base values.

Sir,I can be helped with the material BIN file or any patch file if exists, for solving the problem in CAESAR-II ver 5.1 at office.

thanks in advance

If you have Version 5.10 at the office, then the "Material Database Editor" is active there (it isn't in the Demo). As I stated above, we don't have the data (otherwise we would have put it in the database).

You need to acquire the data you need either from a "materials specialist" or your pipe vendor. Once you have the data, you can then modify the database using the Editor.

Re: MATERIAL SPECIFICATION FOR INCOLY B423 UNS N08825 - 05/10/10 02:21 AM

THANK YOU SIR

I have edited the material and system file is running.
But if that same file in which I have changed the database from my computer will be examined in different computers, then will the same data will be accessed by the same system file in those computers.

Will the system file during opening will not "prompt for unavailability of the material property" at other computers?
This is I am facing now.But yes the systemfile is running in other computers with the above prompt message.

Sir Is there the system file is using same data values, that I have edited for the material?

Explaination needed.....

The material information, once acquired from the material database, is stored in the piping input file (_A), so the file should run anywhere the same as it does on your machine. However, if the file is used on a different installation (without your database modification), c2 will display a warning that the material data in the input doesn't match the material database. You are prompted as to whether your want to "Keep" the existing data or "Update" to the data from the database. In this situation, "[Keep]" is the proper choice.

Your changes to the material database are stored in the c2 \System directory in a file named UMAT1.bin. This file can be moved between installations so that such modifications are not lost.

Dear Richard,

I am working on CII ver 2018 using B31.3 2016.
My query is also related to this thread.

Although for the mat. B423 UNS N08825 the thermal exp. data is available upto -50 deg C in the code but I think CII database has not been updated so far to cover this temp. range. I observe it reads the data upto 28 deg C and beyond that starts giving error.

Hope my observation is correct.

Meanwhile I think I can create a user defined mat. including the thermal exp. data to proceed.

Thanks and Rgds.

Re: MATERIAL SPECIFICATION FOR INCOLY B423 UNS N08825 - 10/23/21 11:08 AM

Ashok,

You're correct, the C2 database only has expansion coefficients down to -20 degF. What you could do is use the "Material Database Editor" and change the data for this material.

- change the first temperature from -20 to -50
- change the expansion coefficient from 7.275 to 7.2

This will create a UMAT1.UMD file in the \ProgramData\...\System directory for that version of C2. Once the material data is updated in the piping input file (_A), you analysis will use the modified data.
