Displacemen due to vacuum for gimbal - 11/07/00 06:27 AM

Dear Sir,
Could you show me how to get the axial displacement due to the vacuum for the piping with the gimbals (the axial stiffness is given)? Does the version 4.0(dos 3.24) not has this fuction or need to switch on some optional. thank you. prompt answer appreciated.

You really can't analyze a vacuum in CAESAR II.

To begin with, pressure doesn't cause displacement in a piping system, unless you have an untied expansion joint, or unless you activate the Bourdon pressure effects.

Specifying a negative pressure, simply alters the way the axial stress is computed. The axial stress is then (always) added absolutely to the bending stress to complete the code equation.

Collapse and/or buckling are not considered or evaulated in CAESAR II.

Perhaps you could calculate the loads that would be caused by the vacuum and then apply them as Forces.
