Flare Tip Thrust Loads on Flare Stack - 12/08/04 12:49 AM

In order to perform complete Flare Stack Analysis i beleive the Flare Tip Thrust Loads obtained from Flare Tip vendor should be used as input on the Node for Flare Stack (piping) mating Flange.
OR
The flare tip Vendor should give downward movement of Flare tip flange due to thrust load.

Could somebody confirm about the same.

Sandeep,
The thrust from the flare tip is a result of the pressure unbalance. The upstream pressure carries the thrust load to the base of the flare, being the elbow or tee where flow is directed to vertical direction upward to flare tip.
I think the thrust loads will add to the loads on the foundation and / or supporting structure.
I think that thrust load is not carried through walls of flare, so there is not concern for the thrust loads causing a buckling failure of the flare stack. Anyway, CAESARII does not perform a buckling failure analysis.

this discussion has been so long ago, and i opened it up again as i face the same problem.
We will get information of thrust force from vendor or displacement from vendor.
Now let we talk about thrust force.
i think Richard is true when the thrust force is not carried through walls of flare, as vendor will calculate the thickness the strentgh of the flare tip either by impact of thrust load itself or by thermal radiation effect, so i think we do not worry about that.
What we should worry is the effect of this thrust force on the mating flange or on the elbow downstream it.
my question, if we apply the thrust force on the mating flange, it mean we should also carried out the flange analysis leakages.
If apply it on elbow, maybe this is the correct method.
Anyone have real experience on it? Please share.
