Piping Forces on Senstive Valves

Piping Forces on Senstive Valves - 10/13/09 04:44 AM

Hi all,

I have a question as follow:

How do we evaluate the piping forces on in-line equipments such as Safety Relief Valve and Control Valve ?

In a piping model, I have known that most of valves are considered as rigid elements. But I think some valves are sensitive to piping loads.

Is there any opinion from all of you ?

I don't know of any specific limits apart from occasional data from vendors. Realistically, most manufacturers could not easily provide this information.

It makes sense to limit bending on valves where deformation may cause jamming or leakage pas the seat, such as thin shell ball valves and PSV's.

I have seen one or two company standards that limit bending in pipe adjacent to a valve (or any flanged joint)to 6000psi, but this is quite arbitrary.
