Some recent book?

Some recent book? - 05/12/09 03:02 AM

I am studying stress analysis with a senior analyst. He is now 60 year old, he is able to use Caesar but he says that in the old days he did calculations by hand following the Kellogg book, which as I have read in this forum is a bible for piping stress. For a deeper understanding I thought I should read some good book, do you advice some more recent BIBLE?
In this forum I read posts about many books, I ask for a book which gaves general background. Many thanks

Piping is not like romance novels - we don't see new titles very often. There have been several posts about recent books here - try the search function.

As Craig said, a new book about piping design and analysis is not published every day, mainly cause the basics are still the same as 50 years ago. These old books will be as good as new versions.
You can also search this forum for the Spielvogel book. It's not available anymore in book stores, but someone here can send you the pdf I think. Just search the forum.

The Piping Handbook, originally by Crocker and King has been updated and published by new authors, not sure who. The old book book had some excellent advice on stress and support issues, including operation of stiffness matrix based FE programs.

"Pipe Stress Engineering" due to be out this month by ASME Press:

Looks like an interesting book. Peng wrote the original Simflex program and has since written many papers on pipe stress engineering.

I noted the reference to a senior analyst being 60 years old. Just in his prime I reckon. Coincidentally, 60 years must be close to the average age of stress engineers in the UK right now.

Can we please allow the man to reap some financial benefit first for having taken the considerable effort to publish this book?

All the old and out-of-print books (Kellogg, Speilvogle, Tube Turns (ARC Markl), etc.) are out on the "share" web sites now so read them first. Also download the non-copyrighted piping publications from American Lifelines and the Los Alamos National Laboratory and read those.

Thank you for your consideration.

Ditto for the US (with some exceptions). It took me at least 15 years just to be moderately competent (and then I started down-hill blush )

Hi John,

I am very anxious to get this book and look to my mailbox and ASME website each day to see if it is there yet.

Just wondering if you have had a sneak preview of it, or possibly even contributed to it

L.C. Peng needs NO help in writing on piping topics.

You can have a look at some of the many paper from L.C. Peng at this site:

Still 12 days for publication of the book. Cancelled earlier order with waterstones and made fresh one with 10% off promotional code with them only. £95.59 free delivery within UK (after 10% deduction), expensive when compared with price in dollars but guess gbp/usd should get more stronger in coming few days!(now thats a different issue.)

the point is if anyone likes to get that 10% discount(waterstone) in price PM me.
cheers
