Material Database Modification - 12/16/08 05:43 PM

Dear All,

I am reviewing the C2 files sent by our engineering subcontractor and whenever I am opening the file, a message appear whether I would like to keep the changes made for properties of pipe material used in the calculation. Maybe our subcontractor modified it based from vendor information or other sources. I want to verify what changes they made by comparing it to the material database in Caesar II for B31.3.

Is it possible to view both? (Modified and the default material properties)
Is it correct that if I open the file and view the material database the original properties are shown and not the modified?

Thanks.

HI,
PROBABLY YOU AND YOUR SUBCONTRACTOR USING TWO DIFFERENT VERSION OF CAESAR.
IF YOU WANT TO OPEN A STRESS FILE WHICH HAS BEEN BUILT IN OLDER VERSION OF CAESAR, SYSTEM ALWAYS ASKING THIS QUESTION. AND THAT IS DUE TO USING DIFFERENT EDITION OF B31.3 IN MATREIAL DATABASE

REGARDS,
MAHMOUD

Thanks Mahmoud.

We are both using Version 5.0 but I don't know if we are also using same build no.

Even if you are using the same "build", someone could have changed values in the material database. This is why the prompt is displayed. The software has detected that there is a difference in the material properties (for a given material) between the input file and the material database.

There were several changes to allowable stress tables between V5.00 and V5.10. For example, the B31.1 limit based on ultimate tensile strength incorporated the vessel code change from Su/4 to Su/3.5. Also, we added the yield stress limit to the input so that you can evaluate the hydrostatic case.

So you will probably get this message even if the changed data does not affect your analysis.

When we throw out this message it would be nice if we would display the difference. I would also like to see a "Do not ask me again for this Version of C2" check box. I'm adding this to my request list for development in 2009.

The checkbox for such warning would be very useful specially for someone having less patience with there job laugh

Also, my simple request about enhancing the "range" option of CAESAR would be nice. Specifically for large system files, say for example, where we only wanted to edit (i.e. supports types, gaps, pipe route, material properties) from node range 10010 to 10200, the model need not to regenerate all nodes in the model (which really takes a lot of time). Then, in sometime probably during "error check", that's the moment where CAESAR will update/regenerate all as necessary. Hopefully. wink
