How to medel elastomer expansion joint - 08/30/00 02:04 AM

Hello Caesar II member,
I am attemp to modeling line from 20" discharge pump to nozzle 30" of mother liquor de-watering column.The line is installed with one elastomer expansion joint. The stiffnesses are defined from the Manufacturer as the follow;

Axial Compression :741.86 N/mm
Axial Extension : 964.25 N/mm
Lateral Movements : 900.2 N/mm
Angular Movements: 206.1 N.m/Degree
Torsional : Not Applicable/Not Available
Effective ID : not defind

The lenght of expansion is 305 mm. and weight approx. 50 Kg. Then I model this expansion joint as below;

First Element : node 11 to 12 DX = -152.5 mm.
Second Element : node 12 to 13 zero length (DX=0) and select expansion joint and input stiffness values for axial stif.= 741.86 N/mm , tran stif. = 900.2 N/mm , Bending Stif.=206.1 N.m/Degree ,
Blank for Torsion and Effective ID
Last Element : node 13 to 14 DX = -152.5 mm.

I am not sure my input model is correct or not .Please suggestion and advise me.

Your modeling looks fine. One thing you may want to include is the weight of the joint. From what you posted, CAESAR II will compute the weight from your two straight lengths of pipe. You may want to adjust material density for these two elements only, to achieve the correct weight.
