Ambient temp for piping from condenser to cooling tower. - 10/24/08 03:29 AM

hi,
1) In my project ambient temp. is given as below ,
Minimum average : 10 deg c
Maximum average : 45 deg c
Mean average : 32 deg c

What is the ambient temp i need to consider for analysis.

2) It is a circulating water piping from condenser to cooling tower , 80% of length the pipe is burried (CL EL -2.67 M) & remaing above the ground . what will be the soil temp at -2.67 m amb.

3) How to calculate the underground ambient temp (for diff depths) depending on the outside ambient temp.

Ambient temperature has a specific meaning in C2. I say it is the temperature at which the pipe is cut and installed.

There are other posts on this. One is current right now. Go look there.

Hi Naveenleo
I think this kind of piping system is very difficult to pass in Caesar. Say you are doing analysis for above ground, you have to assume anchor in above ground / under ground interface. If you are using a rubber expansion bellow it may be ok because cooling tower vendor will give very minimum nozzle load.
So many existing plants are running well without the bellow also but it will be very difficult to model in Caesar & produce report with good nozzle load.
Some cases people leave the system as visual review.

Hi Naveen

Below points can be useful:

If TO>TMAX DT= TO - TMIN
If TOIf TMIN< To< TMAX DT= TMAX - TMIN
Case : II : DT= TMIN-TO

TO = Operating Temp.
TMAX = Maximum Ambient Temperature
TMIN = Minimum Ambient Temperature

you should consider different of max and min temperature which piping

system will experience for expansion load case.

You can enter max temp. in spread sheet and min temp in "special execution

parameters" as an ambient temp.

Also consider below temperatures in your calculation:

1)Minimum Ambient Temperature

2)Maximum Ambient Temperature

3)Maximum Solar Radiation Temperature

4)Site Installation Temperature

5)Maximum Operating Temperature

sorry some text are missing i send you again!

If TO
If TMIN< To< TMAX DT= TMAX - TMIN

TMIN = Minimum Ambient Temperature
