I am modeling steel pipes with the code B31.3, It is necessary use the Bourdon effect?. When do I need use it?

No. B31.3 makes no mention of the "Bourdon effect". In fact, B31.3 tells you explicitly how to compute the stress, so you really don't want to use Bourdon for this code with steel pipe.

When do I need to use Bourdon effects?

The FRP codes require the use of Bourdon effects. It is generally considered the "industry position" that Bourdon effects are necessary whenever pressure displacements are "significant", i.e. low modulus of elasticity materials (FRP), or high pressure long runs (pipelines).

Why we have to define the bourdon effect and installation temperature in two places such as configuration file and special execution parameters?

What will happen, if i only change the values in configuration file alone?

Please clarify.....

The Configuration file is used as a setup, or "seed" value for new input files. Set this the way you want and your input values will be set accordingly. You can still change them in "Special Execution Options" if necessary.

(This is explained in the "help text".)

As per your reply, it seems that the bourdon effect and installation temperature must be defined in both the configuration file and special execution parameters, if not the effect of change will not be considered in the analysis..

Please clarify...

No, changes for bourdon effect and installation temperature in configuration file will be valid only for future files.
For the existing files bourdon effect and installation temperature must be set in "Special Execution Options".

When ever we start a new analysis we start with a new caesar file.

Can u please tell in more clarity about the future files and existing files.

I will try. Assume that you start a new job. You create a folder and then you will begin a new file and you will set in the Configuration file the installation temperature 15 deg C.
And you will create the file A1. Later you will want to create other files, let's name them A2 and A3. All these three files A1, A2, A3 will have the installation temperature 15 deg C.

The next day you discover that you have to change the installation temperature at 10 deg C. You change this in the configuration file and for the next files you create, let name them B1, B2, B3, all will have installation temperature 10 deg C. But for A1, A2 and A3 you will have to go in "Special Execution Options" to change them to 10, otherwise will remain with 15 deg C.

In other words, "Special Execution Options" override what is set by Configuration File.
