Expansion stress range. - 03/23/08 12:25 PM

Hi all ,

I am working on a system which is having temp ( -100 & + 120 )oC
This is subjected to duel temp .Applicable code is B 31.3

I am considering following load cases.
L1=W+P1+T1(OPE)
L2=W+P1+T2(OPE)
L3=W+P1(SUS)
L4=L1-L3(EXP)(ALG)
L5=L2-L3(EXP)(ALG)
L6=L4+L5(EXP)(ABS)

Wheather case 6 is required to be consider as per code?

Thanks a lot .

Regards,
Vivek

and thus is the problem with internet forums... Naveenleo is 100% INCORRECT... the range is the difference between both operating states in other words L1-L2.

Your proposed load case May work out whereas I am sure what suggest will with no doubt.

L1-L2 or your case L6 is required as per code to check full stress range. Search this forum and read this newsletter articles: Satisfying expansion load case requirements" and "Expansion Case for Temperatures Below Ambient"

But you need to check with process wheather system operates between -100 to 120 in a operation cycle.
