Thrust Block - 01/28/08 02:28 AM
Dear All,
What is meant by Thrust Block. Is thrust block required for Fire protection System Pipelines (Underground Ductile Iron). Please send me the reply to amv@lntecc.com

This is a forum. Why do you want a reply that others cannot see ?
Anyway ...
I guess you have the typical buried firemain with bell and spigot or similar joints. These do not resist axial pressure thrust in the pipe, consequently thrust blocks are required to transfer the pressure end load from the pipe to the ground and resist axial pipe movement. Such thrust blocks are normally required at every change of direction.

Thrust in ductile iron pipe systems, as well as provisions for same (e.g. concrete reaction or thrust etc. blocking and/or restrained joint pipes), are discussed in the document available for download from the Ductile Iron Pipe Research Association at
