Recommendations For PVC Supports? - 07/10/07 08:52 AM

Looking for recommendations on PVC pipe supports, 1/2" to large bore.
Are metal straps Anvil Fig 262 the way to go?

To mul211,

The support spacing for small diameter PVC is short, such that continous support might be more practical. I have seen PVC pipe run in a small steel angle or structural steel channel (C3 or C4), and also banded to Uni-strut. The steel channel also provides some protection for collisions from operations techs or pipefitters.

The larger sizes of PVC pipe might have concerns of point loading on the pipe wall from the metal straps, depending on the support spacing versus loads at each support strap. A pipe shield / saddlle like Anvil Fig 167 could serve to spread the support point loads when spans are over 10 ft and pipe size 10" or larger.
